UGREEN NAS RAM Upgrade – Expanding Memory on the DXP4800 Plus
Upgrading the memory in your UGREEN NAS can make a surprising difference to performance, especially if you’re running Docker containers, virtual machines, or simply want smoother multitasking.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through how I upgraded the RAM in a UGREEN DXP4800 Plus NAS from 8GB to 16GB, and what to look out for when choosing compatible memory.
f you’re setting up your UGREEN NAS for the first time, I’ve also covered the full installation, UGOS setup, and RAID configuration process in a separate walkthrough.

Why Upgrade Your UGREEN NAS Memory?
The DXP4800 Plus ships with 8GB of DDR5 RAM, which is fine for basic file storage, but can quickly become limiting if you use:
- Virtual machines or containers (e.g. Docker)
- Media servers such as JellyFin (or Plex - not a native app)
- Multi-user access or heavy workloads
By upgrading to 16GB or more, your NAS gains better responsiveness, faster caching, and more room for applications to run concurrently.
The RAM I Used
In the video, I installed an additional 8GB DDR5 SO-DIMM memory module, a few quick notes from my experience:
- The stock memory is Samsung DDR5 5600MHz.
- I mistakenly purchased 4800MHz RAM, it still works fine, but both sticks will run at the lower 4800MHz speed.
- The system officially supports up to 64GB, though some users have reportedly fitted 96GB successfully.
If you’re buying RAM, I’d recommend going with 5600MHz and choosing reputable brands such as Samsung or Crucial, as cheaper modules can be unreliable in NAS systems.
Step-by-Step Upgrade Summary
- Power down the NAS via the web interface.
- Disconnect power and turn the unit upside down.
- Remove the two screws securing the bottom hatch.
- Locate the existing RAM module and the spare slot above it.
- Insert the new module carefully, make sure it’s fully seated.
- Replace the hatch and power the NAS back on.
- Confirm the new total memory in Control Panel, About, Hardware.
The system should recognise the upgrade immediately. If it doesn’t boot, double-check that both sticks are seated properly and are compatible (DDR5 SO-DIMM, non-ECC).
Verifying the Upgrade
Once booted, go to the UGREEN NAS web interface, open Control Pane, About, and check under the Hardware section. You should now see 16GB of RAM listed (or whatever you fitted).
If you use applications such as Docker, you’ll notice the additional memory available for your containers.
Final Thoughts
The UGREEN DXP4800 Plus is a very capable NAS, and upgrading the RAM makes it even more versatile; perfect for home labs, small business servers, or anyone experimenting with virtualisation.
I’ll be covering other upgrades soon, including NVMe cache drives and 10GbE networking, so stay tuned.
