Restoring the UGOS System Image on the DXP4800 Plus Using Clonezilla
Following on from my previous guide, where I demonstrated how to create a full Clonezilla image of the factory-installed UGOS operating system on the DXP4800 Plus, this post covers the equally important second half of the process: restoring that image when you need it.
There are plenty of videos and forum posts suggesting that the safest way to preserve the original UGOS installation is to remove the factory NVMe drive and replace it with another. While that may work, it raises an obvious concern: the DXP4800 Plus is far from inexpensive, and opening the system up, let alone swapping components, may well risk voiding the warranty.
So instead of diving inside the hardware, why not take advantage of a far simpler and safer solution? By creating a complete Clonezilla image of the system, you can preserve UGOS exactly as it shipped from the factory, and then restore it at any time should anything go wrong.
In this follow-up tutorial, I walk through the full restoration process from start to finish. Whether you’re recovering from a mishap, experimenting with alternative configurations, or replacing a drive and want the original OS back, restoring from a Clonezilla image ensures your system is returned to a clean, factory-fresh state.
What the restoration process involves:
-
Booting the DXP4800 Plus from a Clonezilla USB stick
-
Selecting and loading your previously created UGOS image
-
Restoring the image to the NVMe drive
-
Verifying the integrity of the restored system
-
Rebooting into a fully functional and untouched UGOS environment
It’s a straightforward method, requires no hardware changes, and gives you complete peace of mind. If you haven’t yet created your own UGOS backup image, I highly recommend referring back to the original guide before attempting the restoration steps.
If you’ve tried this yourself or have your own approach to preserving the factory OS, feel free to share your experience.
