UniFi AC Flex HD Review: Still Worth It in 2025?
I’ve covered a lot of UniFi devices over the years — from access points and switches to cameras — but one device I haven’t talked about until now is the UniFi AC Flex HD access point.
It’s been around for quite some time, yet it continues to be a reliable performer in 2025. In this post, we’ll unbox it, adopt it into the UniFi network, set it up, and see if it’s still worth buying today.
π§° Unboxing the UniFi AC Flex HD
The box is smaller than it looks online, but it’s well-packaged and comes with everything you’d expect.
Inside, you’ll find:
-
The UniFi Flex HD access point itself
-
A PoE injector (depending on where you purchase it)
-
A power lead (note: mine wasn’t a UK power lead)
-
Mounting hardware — including wall, pole, and ceiling mounts
-
Instruction manual and screws
The Flex HD’s sleek cylindrical design is compact and modern. It looks great whether placed on a desk, shelf, or wall-mounted — perfect for my client’s setup.
On the back, it features a single Gigabit Ethernet port for PoE power and data, supporting 802.3af, so it works with most UniFi switches or standard PoE injectors.
βοΈ Powering Up and Adoption
Once powered, the LED indicator will flash white, signaling that it’s ready for adoption.
Inside the UniFi Network Controller, the Flex HD pops up automatically under Devices. From there, it’s just a single click on Adopt.
After adoption, the LED changes from flashing white to solid blue, meaning it’s successfully connected and active on the network.
π Updating the Firmware
After adoption, UniFi will likely prompt you for a firmware update.
Simply click Update, confirm the version (in my case, 6.7.31), and the Flex HD will start flashing white and blue during the update process.
Once completed, it returns to a solid blue status — fully updated and ready to go.
It’s a simple, streamlined process, just like any other UniFi device setup.

π Final Thoughts
The UniFi Flex HD may be a few years old, but it still holds its ground in 2025. It’s a compact, elegant, and high-performing access point that integrates seamlessly into the UniFi ecosystem.
If you’re already using UniFi gear and need something flexible for mounting or desktop use, the Flex HD remains an excellent choice — especially for small offices or homes that don’t yet need Wi-Fi 6.
