How to network boot computers over ethernet with TFTP

By Sam Sheridan - 23rd January, 2021

An introduction video explaining how to boot computers and laptops etc over ethernet. The ability to boot devices over a network is useful to know, especially for running diagnostic tools, wiping hard drives, or even installing operating systems such as Windows or Linux without the requirement of preparing physical installation media.

This example video uses FreeBSD for the TFTP server requirement, syslinux for the boot files, and Windows Server 2012 as a DHCP server which you will need to configure options 66 and 67 accordingly to enable network booting of devices. A virtual machine is then used via XCP-NG showing the final outcome of a machine booting over a network with selectable menu options.
