After a fresh install of Windows 11 (usually noticed after installing Office), OneDrive won’t open. No sign-in window appears and there’s no OneDrive icon in the system tray.
Cause
The registry value DisableFileSyncNGSC is set to 1, which blocks OneDrive from starting.
Fix
- Open Registry Editor (
regedit) as an administrator. - Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\OneDrive - Double-click
DisableFileSyncNGSCand change the value from 1 to 0. - Open OneDrive from the Start menu and sign in.
Note
If the value changes back to 1, a policy is setting it. Escalate rather than changing it again.
