Windows 11 hides common file extensions by default.
Showing file extensions makes it easier to see whether a file is a PDF, Word document, image, executable or another file type.
Open File Explorer.
Click:
View > Show
Then select:
File name extensions
Windows will now display file extensions such as:
.docx
.jpg
.exe
To hide file extensions again, return to the same menu and untick File name extensions.
