How to Stop Windows Changing Your Default Printer

Published 11 September 2026

Windows can automatically change your default printer to the one you used most recently.

If you want Windows to keep the same default printer, you can turn this feature off.

Open:

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Scroll down to Printer preferences.

Turn off:

Let Windows manage my default printer

Now select the printer you want to use by default.

Click:

Set as default

Windows should now keep that printer as your default instead of changing it automatically.
